Questions 8242, 8491, 8482: lane reduction on left, priority, zipping, overtaking

Bericht door Blues »

Hi,
In question 8242, it mentioned that on lane reduction on left, the blue car on the closing lane can over take, even though from the picture it seems to be too close to end of lane and actually a bit dangerous. On the other hand in Q 8491, exactly same situation, now the correct answer is that the car on the left (the closing lane) doesn’t have priority. But then these two replies don’t add up. How can you over take if you don’t have priority.
This takes me to the other question concerning zipping. In chapter 2, page 19, it is clearly stated that doesn’t matter lane reduction is on left or right, priority is with the driver on the closing lane (except on the acceleration lane where the driver wants to get on the lane of the motorway). One might argue that zipping is only when there is traffic, but then in Question 8482 which is lane reduction on right and only two cars (the picture doesn’t show any other car), the car on right has priority.

So how can we add all of this up?

Thanks in advance for your time!

8242: the blue car can overtake here, but has no priority on the red car. Look at the photo as a bigger picture; imagine there is 500m left before the lane ends. Would the blue car be allowed to overtake? Yes.
8491: the lane ends, the red car has priority.
8482: zipping requires strongly slowed down traffic. No zipping here. The blue car has priority because the right lane ends (right of way).
